When, in 1939, a department store chain in Chicago decided to publish a colouring book for children, no one could have guessed that it would give rise to one of the most famous Christmas songs worldwide! The touching story of poor reindeer Rudolph who is teased by all around him for his shiny red nose but who ultimately is allowed, full of pride, to guide Father Christmas' sleigh, was just right for the release date, which was during the lead-up to Christmas. The idea to use this story for a song came from the author's brother-in-law. And so right in time for Christmas, in December 1949, appeared the first recording of the song. The record rapidly became an equally big hit as the book.

This Silver Proof coin celebrates one of the most popular Christmas songs, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," and would make a great Christmas gift. Each coin features a gilded reindeer with a real ruby nose in a winter scene.

Reverse: Features a gilded Rudolph with a real ruby nose sitting in a winter scene.  Obverse: Depicts the Kiribati coat of arms, issuing country and year date.
