HM QUEEN ELIZABETH II - Golden Jubilee of Accession 1952 - 2002

In early 1952, Princess Elizabeth, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, left England for an official visit to Australia and New Zealand in the place of her father, King George VI, who was too ill to travel.  On 6th February, whilst in Kenya on the first stage of this trip, she received news of her father's death, and her own accession to the throne.

The coin's pure silver centrepiece is modelled on the Order of the Thistle brooch, worn by the Queen as Sovereign of the Order of the Thistle.  The young Queen Elizabeth II, dressed for the annual Order of the Garter service, is portrayed against a background image of Buckingham Palace.  The Order of the Garter is the most senior and the oldest British Order of Chivalry, founded by Edward III in 1348.  The Perth Mint's traditional "P" mintmark is included in the design.

The design of this 2002-dated commemorative coin is issued with the approval of Buckingham Palace.  The coin is legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and is struck from 99.99% pure gold and 99.9% pure silver in proof-like quality.  The obverse carries the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination.

Metal content - 0.15oz Silver, 0.44oz Gold

A certificate accompanies this stunning bi-metal (gold and silver) coin, struck at the Perth Mint to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne.  The coin is encapsulated and presented in a beautiful woodedn box.

No more than 7,500 individually presented coins were issued by The Perth Mint.
