Following the withdrawal of Russia from the First World War in March 1918, Germany and the Central Powers massed their forces on the Western Front, making gains unprecedented in almost four years of War. The action was met with a determined response from the Allies who had been strengthened by the United States entry into the War in 1917. Their stunning victory at Le Hamel in July represented a significant turning point in the War.
Featured on the coin's reverse is a dove, a bird which has for millennia represented peace, holding in its beak a red poppy. Poppies were the first flowers to bloom in the devastated battlefields of Western Europe and soon became widely accepted as the symbol of remembrance. In the backgroud is the word peace struck in different fonts, the inscription "1918 END of WORLD WAR I" and The Perth Mint's traditional "P" mintmark.
The coin's obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2018 year-date and monetary denomination.
