1990 Special Commemorative Issue

The £5 (Series E) Banknote was issued on 7th June 1990 to replace the "Wellington" Note that had become so familiar to us over the last 20 years.

The cypher AO1 is the first cypher to be printed in production.  The note in this limited edition carries a number somewhere between 002401 and 003503 and is therefore one of the first notes issued in the new series.

On 4th August 1990 Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother celebrated her 90th birthday and, in honour of this very special occasion, the Royal Mint struck a limited number of magnificient crowns in sterling (.925) silver to super Proof quality.  The crown is legal tender and has a face value of five pounds.

The £5 banknote and Silver Proof Crown are beautifully presented in the Royal Mint blue presentation case, accompanied with a certificate of authenticity.
