The United States Botanic Garden Silver Proof Dollar celebrates the vision of our founding fathers including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, which was realised when President James Monroe signed legislation in 1820 that led to the creation of what is now the oldest continually operating botanic garden in the nation.

The coin’s obverse design, by US Mint Sculptor/Engraver Edgar Z. Steever, depicts the French facade of the US Botanic Garden, and the reverse design, by US Mint Sculptor/Engraver William C. Cousins, features a rose, America’s national flower, displayed beneath a garland of roses.

Produced by the United States Mint, the coin was created to help fund the projects and mission of the United States Botanic Garden in Washington, DC.

The coin is legal tender of the United States. Minted in 1997 by the US Mint, this coin comes encapsulated.  This coin is proof quality, which means it meets the finest standards in the industry for both beauty and craftsmanship, carefully designed to represent the best possible versions of the original model.
