This 2004 Thomas Alva Edison Commemorative Proof Silver Dollar, has been struck in accordance with legislation passed by Congress and signed by the President on October 31, 1998, as Public Law 105-331. This coin was produced by the Department of the Treasury, United States Mint to commemorate the 125th Anniversary of the invention of the light bulb by Thomas Alva Edison in 1879.

The obverse design of the 2004 Thomas Alva Edison depicts Thomas Edison holding an experimental light bulb in his laboratory.

The reverse design features rays of light radiate from an 1879 light bulb.
