In 2016, we celebrate the ninth animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac. The birth dates for people ruled by the Chinese Lunar goat include 1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004 and 2016. Those born under the influence of this sign are said to be intelligent, quick-witted, optimistic, ambitious, and adventurous.
Each coin is meticulously struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.
The reverse of each coin depicts an adult monkey and a baby monkey sitting in a peach tree and selectively coloured. The baby is holding a peach, which is symbolic of longevity and immortality. The Chinese character for ‘monkey’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Monkey’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
The 2016 Coloured silver releases are available as individual 1oz, and 1/2oz coins.
Issue limits of 9,000 for the individual 1oz coins.
Each coin is housed in a stylish red and black display case and illustrated lunar-themed shipper, and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
