2000 $5 SILVER PROOF - THE SYDNEY 2000 OLYMPIC COIN COLLECTION
REACHING THE WORLD
The Sydney 2000 Olympic Coin Program is a joint venture between the Royal Australian Mint and the Perth Mint to commemorate the Olympic Games in Sydney in the Year 2000. The sixteen coins in the Silver Coin Series feature two distinct themes: Australia’s cultural diversity and the environmental richness of the Australian Continent.
Each Silver coin carries the Sydney 2000 signature with rings in colour and is edge-lettered with the words ‘Games of XXVII Olympiad’.
Australia’s achievements in sport and the arts are celebrated in this coin design by Stuart Devlin. Figures representing ballet, painting, opera, pop music, athletics, golf and soccer radiate out from a map of Australia. They are framed by a border comprising famous international arts and sports venues interspersed with cityscapes from around the world. The venues are the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Guggenheim Museum in New York, Wembley Stadium in London, the Palezetto dello Sport in Rome, and the Olympic Sports Hall in Tokyo.
The coin is encapsulated and a rich green colour has been chosen for the interior and the exterior of the presentation case. The coin is accompanied by a descriptive booklet that includes a Certificate of Authenticity and is protected by a beauty box.
