The Royal Canadian Mint is proud to present the 1991 proof set of Canadian coinage. This is the only set available which contains both the 1991 commemorative silver dollar and the aureate dollar. The set also includes 50 cents, 25 cents, 10 cents, 5 cents and 1 cent – a total of 7 coins.
The commemorative silver dollar marks the 175th anniversary of the launching of the Steam Frontenac, on the Bay of Quinte, in Lake Ontario, in 1816. The reverse depicts the Frontenac, a comparatively large vessel measuring 170 feet long and weighing 700 gross tons. She as the first Canadian built steamship to operate on the Great Lakes.
The set is presented in a black box with a burgundy satin interior and is accompanied with a Royal Canadian Mint information card and black beauty box.
