This beautiful 1990 Masterpieces in Silver Proof set, The Silver Dollars, is one of a limited mintage of 25,000. The three coins and plaque have each been designed and struck to the highest standards of quality by the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra. The three dollars designs includes: Australia's first dollar coin design, originally minted in 1984 to replace the one dollar note. In 1986 the Royal Australian Mint issued this special design to commemorate the International Year of Peace in Australia. 1988 was Australia's bicentenary, this special dollar was designed to commemorate the year and Australia's aboriginal art heritage.
The design on the plaque, inspired by Gordon Andrews, was orginally used on the one dollar note. The plaque has been manufactured in sterling silver to the same exacting standards as the proof coins in the set. Each plaque is consecutively numbered using a method unique to the Royal Austrlalian Mint.
The obverse of all the 1990 Masterpieces in Silver coins depicts the traditional image of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed by Raphael Maklouf.
The coins and plaque are beautifully presented in the Royal Australian Mint original black box, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and outer box.
