SOUTH-EASTERN RED-TAILED BLACK COCKATOO
In bush folklore, the cry of Red-tailed Black Cockatoos is reputed to herald rain – making them a welcome sight in rural Australia. Found in eucalypt woodlands or along water courses, the south-eastern subspecies has been reduced to a fragmented population of fewer than 1000 birds, and is threatened by the clearing of the trees in which they nest. Illegal bird trappers are also thought to be reducing the numbers of this attractive bird.
The coin is encapsulated and dark green has been chosen for the exterior of the presentation case. The coin is accompanied by a descriptive booklet that includes a Certificate of Authenticity and is protected by a beauty box.
