In 1990, the Royal Mint issued a maximum of 25,000 silver Proof £1 coins for worldwide distribution.  The coin feature on its reverse the national emblem of Wales, the leek, encircled by the Royal Diadem.  First appearing on the £1 coins of 1985, the design is the work of the renowned silversmith Leslie Durbin.

The obverse carries Raphael Maklouf's elegant portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, surrounded by the Royal Style and Titles in Latin "Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith".  The Welsh inscription PLEIDIOL WYF I'M GWLAD ("True am I to my country") appears on the edge of the coin.

Specifications

This one pound coin is struct to proof quality in sterling (.925 silver).  It weighs 9.50 grammes and measures 22.50 millimetres in diameter.

The 1990 Silver Proof One Pound Coin is encapsulated and housed in the original box and complete with certificate of authenticity.
