In 1991 the Royal Mint issued a maximum of 25,000 silver Proof £1 coins for worldwide distribution.

The reverse design of the coin represents Northern Ireland and features a flax plant encircled by the Royal Diadem.  Previously appearing on the £1 coins of 1986, the design the work of the renowned silversmith Leslie Durbin.

The obverse carries Raphael Maklouf's elegant portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Latin abbreviations of the surrounding Royal Style and Titles standing for "by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith".

The edge of the coins bears the Latin inscription DECUS ET TUTAMEN meaning "an ornament and a safeguard".

Specifications

This one pound coin is struck to Proof quality in sterling (.925) silver.  It weighs 9.50 grammes and measure 22.50 millimetres in diameter.

The 1991 silver proof one pound coin is encapsulated and housed in the original box, complete with certificate of authenticity.
