The 60th Anniversary of the Queen's Coronation (1953 - 2013)
In this magnificient design for this significant five-ounce coin, the designer, Jonathan Olliffe, has captured both an impressive perspective of the architecture that provided the theatre that surrounded the Coronation, alongside the opulent ceremonial regalia.
Two of the most important symbolic objects used in the historic Coronation ceremony feature prominently in Olliffe's design. The Orb and Sceptre, lavish and emblematic of the sovereign's powers, sit at the forefront of the design, enveloped by the soft and delicate folds of Her Majesty's Coronation robe, all expertly framed by the intricate architecture of Westminster Abbey.
