Issued by New Zealand to commemorate the visit of Their Royal Highnesses, The Prince and Princess of Wales, to New Zealand from 17 to 30 April 1983.

The obverse bears the effigy of Her Majesty The Queen, by Arnold Machin, with the inscription "Elizabeth II New Zealand 1983" around the periphery.  This obverse design is that used on New Zealand's current 1c to 50c general circulation coins.  The coin will have a grained edge. 

The reverse design, by Philip Nathan shows portraits of Their Royal Highnesses, The Prince and Princess of Wales facing right  The Prince of Wales' Badge of Ostrich Feathers is on the left of the coin, with a New Zealand fern frond on the right.  The words "Royal Visit" and "One Dollar" respectively are above and below the portraits.

The coin is housed in a protective plastic capsule and presented in the original dark red case, with certificate of authenticity.
