This beautifully designed 10 Yuan coin was issued by the government of the People's Republic of China.

The Common Crane still breeds in many parts of Europe, and winters in Africa and India.  It lives in open country marshes, meadows, prairies and tundra and feeds on small animals and vegetable matter.  Its adult plumage is grey, varied with black and white and it has a red patch of bare skin on the head and neck.  Standing over three feet high, the Common Crane's windpipe is exceptionally long and is coiled within the hollowed keel of the breastbone, somewhat like a French horn.  This anatomical peculiarity is believed to give additional resonance to the loud calls for which this crane is noted.
