This beautifully designed 5 Yuan coin was issued by the government of the People's Republic of China.
It is certain that the Chinese were the first to use a place for zero in their calculations in the 4th century B.C. For centureis, there was no need for a symbol for zero, as an empty space was simply left on the abacus which was commonly used for calculation in China. The zero is thought to have developed from a circle drawn around this emply space. Over 2,000 years later no calculation would be possible without the figure zero.
