The 20 Balboa coin - the largest and heaviest circulating sterling silver coin in the Western Hemisphere - was redesigned for 1977.  For the first time, this world-famous coin portrays Spanish explorer Vasco Nunez de Balboa, for whom Panama's coinage system was named.

The coin's new design features the famous statue in Panama City, capital of the nation, showing the great explorer - upraised sword in one hand, flag in the other - laying claim to the ocean and all its shores.

The reverse of the coin bears the official coat of arms of the Republic of Panama, as well as the coin's denomination.

Minted in limited edition by The Franklin Mint, the coin contacts more that a quarter pound of solid sterling silver.

The coin is made of .925 Fine Silver with a Silver content of 3.853 Troy Oz, and weighs 129.59g.

This stunning coin is encapsulated and presented in the original dark blue case, accompanied with a Certificate of Authenticity.
