TREE OF HOPE
Thousands of years ago, Canada’s aboriginal people cherished the maple for its wondrous delicacy that hailed the warming days of spring.
Centuries later, the Europeans treasured the maple for its wood that enabled them to build their homes and find comfort in the warmth of its flame.
Today, the challenges may have changed, but the maple’s message remains the same. It is a beacon for Canada’s new generation of immigrants, inspiring them to believe in their dreams – that hope can be found in the shade of the maple tree.
Toan Nguyen, of the Royal Canadian Mint, designed the reverse of the coin. It depicts three maple leaves and a privy mark comprising the year 2005 with the words “Maple of Hope” in Chinese. The coin comes encapsulated and presented in a red clam case and it is accompanied by a booklet of authenticity.
