TO COMMEMORATE THE BICENTENARY OF AUSTRALIA 1788-1988
Australia and the United Kingdom have since the first British settlement in 1788 maintained strong cultural links. Much of Australia's population consists of descendants of the first settlers or of more recent British immigrants.
To celebrate this long association of the two countries, the Royal Mint issued this stunning commemorative coin wallet containing all the circulating coins of the United Kingdom struck to Brilliant Uncirculated quality. Each of the coins in this collection depicts on its reverse a design relating to Britain's rich heritage. The obverse, common to each of the coins, depicts Raphael Maklouf's regal portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
These are the regular 1988 British Mint Sets but in the special Australian packaging. They contain the Pound, Fiftypence, Twentypence, Tenpence, Fivepence, Twopence and Onepence.
Only 5,000 sets total were made and the vast majority were distributed in Australia.
