This 1990 Guernsey Coin Collection contains the full range of circulating coins from the penny to the pound including the new size of 5 pence coin, formerly the shilling.   The new 5 pence is smaller and was officially released into circulation in June 1990.

The name shilling is believed to be of Teutonic origin.  In England it can be traced back to Anglo-Saxon time, when it was not a coin but a unit of account.  It was not until the reign of the great numismatic innovator, Henry VII, that the first shilling coin was struck; influenced by his European counterparts, Henry incorpated his own portrait.  As a result the shilling, or testoon as it was first called, included a new profile or "half-face" of the King.

Each of these beautiful coins in the 1990 Coin Collection represents an industry of the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

The coins are housed in a colourful and information presentation pack.
