Britain joined the Community in 1973, an event marked with a 50 pence coin bearing a special design. It is particularly appropriate, therefore, that a commemorative dual-dated 50 pence coin marked the United Kingdom's Presidency of the Council of Ministers in 1992 and the completion of the European Single Market, effective from 1st January 1993.
The design by Mary Milner Dickens, symbolises the special bond between the twelve member states. The twelve stars are placed in the geographic positions of the capital cities and the network of lines indicate the trade and commercial links within the community. The coin is accompanied by the more familiar 50 pence which bears Christopher Ironside's seated figure of Britannia. Both carry Raphael Maklouf's portrait of Her Majesty the Queen..
The 50p coins are housed in a presentation folder and are of uncirculated quality and have been carefully handled to avoid damage.
