To mark the centenary of the Royal Air Force, The Royal Mint has issued a series of five brand new RAF £2 coins to be released in 2018, each celebrating the RAF and their most iconic aircraft.
This £2 coin is the second in the RAF coin series and features a striking design of three Spitfire planes mid-flight on the reverse, designed by Richard and Neil Talbot, to celebrate the most loved aircraft ever built.
The Spitfire first took to our skies in 1936, and is the most famous aircraft ever built. It is admired as one of the most graceful aircraft ever; due to its streamlined fuselage, iconic elliptical wing shape, and of course it’s renowned Rolls Royce Merlin engine.
The Royal Air Force was formed during the First World War in 1918, and is the oldest air force in the world. It has always had an impressive following of fans in awe of their triumphs, and this coin is sure to be snapped up by both coin and RAF collectors.
Struck by the Royal Mint to an unblemished Brilliant Uncirculated finish, this £2 coin has been protectively encapsulated and features a security hologram to certify its superior quality.
