The First Red Copper Five-Yuan Panda Coin of China
In 1993, China issued the first Red Copper Five-Yuan Panda Coin. Featuring a pair of China’s beloved Giant Pandas savouring bamboo in a remote forest, the coin is truly the first it is kind.
Making it seem more desirable is that, of all copper Panda coins minted in 1993, only a small proportion were distributed outside China.
Minted of pure, red copper, this legal tender coin features the Official emblem of the People’s Republic of China and that nation’s name in both traditional Chinese character and Pinyin romanisation on the obverse. This system of transliterating Chinese characters into the Roman alphabet was adopted by the People’ s Republic of China in 1979.
Housed in a protective capsule to keep its quality.
