INTRODUCING BRITAIN'S NEW COINAGE COMMEMORATIVE SILVER PROOF COIN COVER
Forty years ago, Britain went decimal and the nature of our currency changed fundamentally. Since then there have been several changes in the coins and their designs, but on a piecemeal basis.
Now for the first time since then the Royal Mint has issued a completely new set of reverse designs, for all coins from 1p to £1. The Mint invited designs for the new coins in an open competition; the winner was Matthew Dent, a graphic designer. Each coin would use elements of the Royal Arms, which, when viewed together, would form a more complete picture, symbolising the uniting of the four countries under a single monarch. The £1 coin carries the completed shield, an idea that only emerged towards the end of the design process.
This commemorative cover offers you the chance to won the brand-new designs for the 1p through to the £1, struck in 925/1000 Sterling Silver to a Proof finish all in one collection. The coins are complemented with a gold first class definitive and postmarked on 2nd April 2008, the very day the coins were introduced to Great Britain.
The coin is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and presented in a black folder.
