Part of the Royal Mail's "Travellers' Tale" set that went on sale in February 1999, the 20 pence stamp graphically shows how jet airliners encircle the globe, while the 37 pence issue depicts a jet engine, the engine motor that helped revolutionise air travel postmarked on 13th May 1999.

This is the 50th Anniversary of the UK's first Jet Bomber flight.

The Isle of Man 1 crown coin also recognises man's conquest of the skies, commemorating the achevement of two Japanese airman whose 1925 flight was the first to link by air the capital cities of Japan and France.
