UNDERSTANDING THE UNIVERSE

This Commemorative Coin Cover incorporates the 1999 Isle of Man crown featuring the International Space Station and two stamps from the Royal Mail's 1990 "Astronomy" issue.  The coin has been issued to celebrate the advances made in space exploration and communications as we head into the New Millennium.   The coin also displays The National Maritime Museum's official Millennium 2000 Logo.

The stamps were first released on October 16th 1990.  They represent mainly early astronomical and navigation methods.  the 26p stamp features Early Telescopes and Sir Isaac Newton's Moon and Tides diagram.  The 37p stamp depicts a gyroscope, navigation by stars, and Stonehenge.

Postmarked on 16th October 1999, this is precisely nine years to the day that the Astronomy stamps were first released into general circulation, providing collectors with their own special tribute to man's advances in science and technology.
