BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED A CELEBRATION OF FOOTBALL  £2 COIN
PHILATELIC NUMISMATIC COVER

In 1996, the year England hosted the tenth European Championship, the Royal Mint struck this special £2 coin bearing a commemorative design by John Mills.  It gives the impression of a football and has sixteen small rings to symbolise each of the finalists.

The five featured players - William Ralph (Dixie) Dean; Robert Frederick (Bobby) Moore; Duncan Edwards; William Ambrose (Billy) Wright and Robert Dennis (Danny) Blanchflower were chosen by the general public from a list of ten players selected by sports writers from players nominated by the Football Associations of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Stamps - first day of issued 14th May 1996.

The PNC cover is jointly issued by the Royal Mail and the Royal Mint.
