INTRODUCING BRITAIN'S NEW COINAGE COMMEMORATIVE COIN COVER
BRITISH HISTORY THROUGH COINS AND STAMPS

Forty years ago Britain went decimal and the nature of our currency changed fundamentally.  Since then there have been several changes in the coins and their designs, but on a piecemeal basis.  Now the first time since then the Royal Mint has issued a completely new set of reverse designs, for all coins from 1p to £1.

Matthew Dent's design involved a unified design based on the Royal Arms.  Each coin would use elements of the Royal Arms, which when viewed together would form a more complete picture, symbolising the uniting of the four countries under a single monarch.  The £1 coins carried the completed shield.

This commemorative cover, celebrates the new coinage by presenting the coins in stunning cupro-nickel.  The cover features the 1p through to the 50p and complements them with a Royal Mail 1st class definitive postmarked on 2nd April 2008, the day the coins were introduced into Great Britain.
