2016 Silver Proof One Pound Coin - The Last "Round Pound"

On 19th March 2014, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osbourne, announced plans for a new cutting-edge £1 coin with additional security features to combat counterfeiters, but with a tinge of nostalgia; the new 12-sided design is a welcome nod to the pre-decimalisation "threepenny bit".  The fusion of two different coloured metals and the use of a revoluationary new high security feature maintains The Royal Mint's longstanding reputation for being at the leading edge of minting.

In 2016 to celebrate the upcoming new £1 coin which will enter circulation in 2017, the Royal Mint released this special Limited Issue Silver Proof Last Round Pound.
