The Royal Mint and Bank of England Five Pounds Set

The £5 note, first issued in 1990, has on its front an engraved portrait of Her Majesty The Queen and a figure of Britannia based on a design in the Bank of England's collection.  The note contains many references to George Stephenson.  Some are obvious, the "Rocket", Stephenson's portrait and "Locomotion" pulling wagons across Skerne Bridge.  The £5 note show the cypher HM70 and a serial number between 1 and 5000.

The 1996 cupro-nickel Five Pounds, or Crown, celebrates the seventieth birthday of Her Majesty The Queen and is the first United Kingdom coin to commemorate the birthday of a reigning monarch.  The reverse design shows the Royal Standard, the Union Flag and the Queen's personal flag.  Two accompanying pennants bear the dates 1926 and 1996 and all are set against the background of Windsor Castle.  The obverse bears Raphael Maklouf's elegant portrait of the Queen.

The note and coin are encapsulated and are housed in a presentation pack with outer sleeve and accompanying colourful information booklet.
