HONOURING THE KINGS OF THE FOREST

As a multi-cultural nation with ancient societies at its core, Canada is home to a wealth of soul-nourishing festivals that celebrate the past and foster a new vision for the future.  Old traditions from a multitude of nations are combined with modern ideas to create new customs that enrich this nation as a whole.  Canada's festivals amaze, inspire, and delight its residents as well as those who visit.

For a young nation, wood was a treasured resource, providing shelter and heat for the settlements that began to dot the landscape. In British Columbia, the country's mildest climat produced the greatest trees in the land - maginificent forests of cedar and fir that became the heart and soul of Canada's pioneering loggers.

Today, while steel machinery has replaced the brawn and grit of these hardy men, their unique heritage continues to thrive at the Squamish Days Loggers Sports.  Every year, loggers from Canada and the US are joined by competitors from Australia and Europe in an international event that transforms historic logging skills into breathtaking sport.
