A WILD RIDE TRIBUTE TO THE WILD WEST

As a multi-cultural nation with ancient societies at its core, Canada is home to a wealth of soul-nourishing festivals that celebrate the past and foster a new vision for the future.  Old traditions from a multitude of nations are combined with modern ideas to create new customs that enrich this nation as a whole.  Canada's festivals amaze, inspire, and delight its residents as well as those who visit.

Once a remote outpost for the North West Mounted Police, modern day Calgary still pulses with the spirit and adventure of the Wild West - thanks to the vision of Guy Weadick, a celebrated cowboy and showman of the time who sought to preserve the legacy of the Canadian frontier for future generations.  In 1912, Weadick raised $100,000 from four prominent ranchers and the Calgary Stampede was born.

Branded the "greatest outdoor show on earth", the energy of the Calgary Stampede overflows the limits of its 55.4 hectare park to send a wave of horses, Stetsons, rodeo clowns, and square dancers into the streets of Calgary.
