In 1992, the Royal Mint issued a maximum of 25,000 silver Proof £1 coins for worldwide distribution.

The reverse design of the 1992 coin represents England and features an oak tree in its entirety, its trunk encircled by the Royal Diadem.  This design previously appeared on the £1 coin of 1987 and is the work of renowned silversmith Leslie Durbin.

The obverse carries Raphael Maklouf's exquisite portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, with the Latin abbreviations of the surrounding Royal Style and Titles standing "by the Grade of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith".

The edge of the coin bears the Latin inscription DECUS ET TUTAMEN, which translates as "an ornament and a safeguard".
