2010 £1 Silver Proof Coin - London

London is one of the world's truly great cities.  Home to nearly eight million people, it is at the forefront of all humanity's endeavours, from politics, business and science to technology, architecture and the arts.

The 2010 London coin marks the city's eminence.  The reverse design features the coat of arms belonging to the City of London Corporation - the 'Square Mile' presided over by the Lord Mayor of London.  This coat of arms is used because, while each London borough has its own coat of arms, there is currently no single heraldic emblem for London in the normal sense.

The arms of the City are blazoned: 

'Argent a cross with in the first quarter a sword erect point update gules'.
