2018 Silver Proof Ten Pence - The Great British Coin Hunt - Q

In 2018 The Royal Mint released 26 commemorative 10p coin designs. Their theme is the A to Z of Britain and each coin combines a letter of the alphabet with an aspect of quintessential Britishness.

This is the first time The Royal Mint has produced a series of commemorative 10p coins and each 10p coin has been struck in .925 Sterling Silver to a Proof finish.

Q is for Queuing  - This 10p features a line of people queueing throught the letter Q, to represent the very British oblication to queue.  If there’s one thing British people know how to do, it’s stand in an orderly queue! Renowned across the globe for our calm and good-natured queueing manner, it is a formation that comes naturally to the people of Britain.

Established as a social norm in the early 19th Century, Britain is believed to have gained its reputation for queueing during major historical events, including the industrial revolution. As more and more people gathered together in urban areas, the need for order was made apparent.

Today, queuing is a part of everyday life. Whether you are out shopping, waiting for a taxi or heading to your local chip shop, an orderly queue will be ready for you to join.

The coin is protectively encapsulated in a Perspex presentation block and housed in the original Royal Mint outer case.
