2002 Silver Proof 2-Coin Set - Golden Jubilee

HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN JUBILEE SILVER CROWN SET

Recalling two great milestones in the glorious reign of Her Majesty the Queen, the Jubilee Crown set unites a Silver Jubilee Crown with a Silver Crown celebrating the Queen's Golden Jubilee.

Each bears an equestrian portrait of the Queen on its obverse and together they reflect not only her lifelong love of horses, but also the regal and ceremonial aspect of her reign.  The desigs continue a fine numismatic tradition begun by the very first Silver Crown of Edward VI, although they were perhaps more directly inspired by the first crown of Her Majesty's reign, struck in celebration of her Coronation.

The equestrian portrait on the 1953 Coronation Crown was prompted by the emotive image of the Young Princess Elizabeth on horseback at the Trooping The Colour ceremony in 1951.  The 1977 Silver Jubilee Crown was, in turn, inspired by its illustrious predecessor.  Ian Rank-Broadley modelled a splendid equestrian portrait for the 2002 Golden Jubilee Crown to celebrate this event.

The Silver Jubilee and Golden Jubilee Crowns in this set have both been minted in sterling .925 Silver to Proof quality.

Only 2002 of these sets will be made available to collectors throughout the world, the 2002 dated coin being taking from its issue limit of 75,000 and the 1977 dated coin having been obtained from the secondary market.  No further coins have been struck to make up this set.

The coins are housed in their original green case with certificate of authenticity/information booklet as issued by the Royal Mint.
