During the last ten years a Welsh £1 coin has twice formed part of a series to represent the four constituent parts of the United Kingdom.  Each coin in the series bore its own national floral emblem and the leek, symbolic of Wales for some 500 years and longer still according to tradition, was chosen for the Principality of Wales.

The new series of four is predominantly heraldic in design and it is therefore entirely appropriate that the famous dragon of Wales, passant with wings elevated just as it appears on the badge and flag of Wales, should feature on the new Welsh £1 coin.  Like its counterparts of 1985 and 1990, the new coin carries the edge inscription PLEIDIOL WYF I'M GWLAD, taken from the Welsh national anthem and meaning "True am I to my country".

The one pound coin is in a presentation folder and is of uncirculated quality and has been carefully handled to avoid damage.
