2010 BU £1 Coin Pack - UK Cities (London and Belfast)

The new series of £1 coins features the four capital cities of the UK.  The 2 new £1 coins making their debut in 2010 begin a new series of 4 celebrating the great cities of the UK. London and Belfast feature in 2010 with Cardiff and Edinburgh due to follow in 2011. The reverses each bear the heraldic devices of the 4 cities highlighting each in turn.

For the £1 coins Stuart Devlin, chose to use the coats of arms of each city since, although there are certain constraints, they still allowed considerable design freedom and he was able to give the traditional a contemporary feel by making the shields round to reflect the circular shape of the coins.  

The most creative aspect of his concept was to depict all four cities on all four coins while featuring one of the cities specifcally. He found carving of the master particuarly challening becase of the detail he wanted to depict but feels that "miniaturisation provides the great attraction of the coins".

The one pound coins are in their original presentation folder, are of uncirculated quality and have been carefully handled to avoid damage.
