2010 BU 5 Coin (Presentation Card) - Royal Engagement

THE OFFICIAL ROYAL ENGAGEMENT COIN

HRH PRINCE WILLIAM OF WALES AND MISS CATHERINE MIDDLETON

This coin has been struck in celebration of the engagement of Prince William to Catherine Middleton.

It is a £5 coin authorised by Alderney, the coin obverse bears the portrait of the Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS.

Prince William and Catherine Middleton met when both were students at the University of St Andrews in Fife, Scotland.  Their friendship blossomed into love and, on 16th November they announced their engagement and their plans to wed at Westminster Abbey on 29th April 2011.

This special commemorative reverse has been created by Matthew Bonaccorsi, Chief Engraver at the Royal Mint, who chose to feature a portrait of the happy couple and explains: 'my inspiration came from photographs of the couple at a sporting event.  The play on the tradition portrait is that Prince William is still seen in profile, alluding to his Royal status".

By The Royal Mint to Celebrate the Royal Engagement, with only 50,000 presentation folders have been authorised.
