In 1990, the Royal Mint changes crowns from their previous 25 pence value to £5 and this was the first of its kind - paying tribute to the Queen Mother on her 90th birthday.

The reverse design features ornamental 'E's' entwined and flanked by an English rose and a Scottish thistle.

The Queen Mother's name and title are inscribed at the top while the double dates of 1900 and 1990 appear at the foot.
