After nearly 80 years of selfless and dedicated service to his country, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh announced his retirement from public duties.  As he steps back from the spotlight, The Royal Mint celebrates his extraordinary contribution to public life and people’s lives.

The coin features a portrait of The Duke of Edinburgh by highly respected designer Humphrey Paget (1893-1974). Today, Paget is recognised as one of the finest and most prolific coin designers of the 20th century. This portrait of Prince Philip was one of his last significant commissions.
