In 2008, for the first time ever, The Royal Mint released a special Limited Issue Proof 7 Coin Collection of the new designs for the Coinage of the United Kingdom.  There has been a change to the coinage of the United Kingdom - one of the most significant changes in 40 years.  New designs for the 1p to the £1 have been introduced, contemporary in treatment yet grounded in the traditions of the coinage.  The series that has been chosen brings new life to the coinage and, like the decimal designs 40 years ago, draws inspiration from the very fabric of British history.

Familiar designs that have served us well for almost 40 years will be replaced by a new set of designs by Matthew Dent.

The reverse designs: £1 - A shield of the Royal Arms.  Each coin in the new series of coin designs from the 1p to the 50p feature a portion of the Royal Arms - united, therefore, and carefully arranged in the correct order, they make up the Royal Arms in entirety.

Shared obverse design - each coin in this collection features the portrait of Her Majesty The Queen by Ian Rank Broadley.

These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.

This collection is subject to an issue limit of 20,000.

The coins are sealed in the plastic case and beautifully presented in a black velvet box, with an accompanying certificate of authenticity and full colour booklet.

As we have several of the Proof Collections in stock, the serial number may vary from the certificate shown.

  • Celebrating the centenary of the 4th Olympiad
  • Complete with a colourful booklet incorporating a Certificate of Authenticity
  • Issue limit of just 15,000 to satisfy worldwide demand.
