In 2019 the 50p turns 50 and a collection of special edition coins marks this milestone moment.  This set brings together five 50p coins that have commemorated significant moments in British miliary history.

The 50p was introduced in 1969, two years ahead of the decimal changeover, and the last year of the decade was an eventful one for Britain.  Concorde took to the skies, Led Zeppelin released their first album and the surreal comedy of Monty Python hit our screens.  On the world stage, millions watched in awe as Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon.  50p went further back then: you could buy a round of drinks at the local pub or put a serious dent in the weekly shop with just one coin.

The Royal Mint has a long tradition of commemorating events from military history.  The coins recall the epic battles of Britain's past, the great commanders who marshalled the troops, and the courage of those who served.  Over the last 50 years, the 50p has featured five military themed designs. 

Spanning almost 1,000 years of history, the coins in this set commemorate the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings, 150 years of the Victoria Cross (The Award and Heroic Act), the 75th anniverary of the Battle of Britain and the 50th anniversary of the D-Day Landings, the operation that turned the tide of the Second World War.

The coins are beautiful presented in a perspex case, housed in original Royal Mint black case, with colourful outer.  A Certificate of Authenticity accompanies this set.
