In 2001, to commemorate Queen Victoria's Centenary, the Royal Mint released a Brilliant Uncirculated Special Anniversary Crown.

The commemorative reverse, inspired by the ornate framework of the famous Crystal Palace, reflects the superb detail and excellent craftsmanship of Victorian art. A classic portrait of the young Queen Victoria based on the Penny Black postage stamp with a V representing Victoria and taking the form of railway lines with a background of the iron framework of the Crystal Palace and the denomination £5 Five Pound, dated "1901" and "2001" designed by Mary Milner-Dickens.

The obverse design is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank Broadley.
