In 1994, Austria voted overwhelmingly in favour of joining the EU, and, on 1st January 1995, it became a member.  Having decided in 1998, along with ten other countries, to adopt the single European currency, it did so on 1st January 1999.

This 20 Schilling note represents the last of this classic denomination.  It features the portrait of Moritz M. Daffinger, the renowned Austrian artist and graphic designer.

The Schilling ceased to exist as a currency on 1st January 2002.  Replaced by the Euro.
