The Royal Canadian Mint is proud to present the 1979 proof set of Canadian coinage. This is the only set available which contains both the 1986 silver and nickel dollars. The set also includes 50 cents, 25 cents, 10 cents, 5 cents and 1 cent – a total of 7 coins.
The silver dollar commemorates the first ship to sail the Great Lakes above Niagara Falls 300 years ago. The reverse depicts the Griffon in full sail. The nickel dollar bears the popular design of the Indian and Voyageur in a canoe which appeared on the first Canadian silver dollar issued in 1935.
The set is presented in a black box with a burgundy satin interior and is accompanied with a Royal Canadian Mint information card and black beauty box.
