In 2006, to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the Birth of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the Royal Mint released a Limited Issue £2 Two Pound Silver Proof Coin struck in solid .925 Sterling Silver.

Isambard Kingdom Brunel is arguably Britian's greatest engineer and during a career that spanned more than thirty years he used his amazing inventiveness and considerable talent in a multitude of engineering fields.

Born on 9th April 1806, Brunel was the only son of the prominet engineer Marc Isambard Brunel.  After being eduated at Hove, near Brighton, he studied for two years at the College Henri Quatre, in Paris, returning to England in 1823 where he worked with his father on the building of the Thames Tunnel.
