1997 5 Yuan Silver Proof Coin - Zhuangzi

This beautifully designed 5 Yuan coin was issued by the government of the People's Republic of China.

This coin commemorates one of the great Chinese philosophers of ancient times.  Zhuangzi lived approximately between 369-286 BC and was responsible for some of the most influential writings on Taoism (the way of the universe).  His writings of the same name feature stories, allegories and essays and are based on his teaching on the premise that all things change and that our perception of truth is dependent on context.  Zhuangzi's writings are still seen as important by Taoism followers along with the other fundamental Taoism text, the Laozi.
