This beautifully designed 5 Yuan coin was issued by the government of the People's Republic of China.

The Forbidden City in Peking, also now known as the Imperial Palace Museum, is enjoyed by thousands of visitors each year.  The Hall for the Preservation of Harmony is one of three large buildings at the centre of the Forbidden City.  The other two are the Hall of Supreme Harmony and the Hall of Complete Harmony.  First built in 1420, the Hall for the Preservation of Harmony was used to hold the imperial examinations - held for the highest ranking civil service positions.  Those who survived the palace exam would get the title of "doctor" and their status and wealth  would then be assued.
